Failed login from remote mssqlserver service account!

  • Hello,

Brand new member here and first post so be gentle. =)

I have two W2K adv server clusters running SQL Server 2000 enterprise with default single instance.  One of the clusters is primarily a DTS box with ~300 jobs/packages.  The second box is a normal db server with ~20 databases.  I have recently enabled failure auditing on my servers and now I am seeing a login failure a lot.  Here is how they are setup...

    DTS1 - SQL2000 sp2, mssql svc acct (domain\sql4cluster), sql agent svc acct (domain\sqlagent)

    SQL1 - SQL2000 sp3a, mssql svc acct (domain\sql1cluster), sql agent svc acct (domain\sqlagent)

I keep seeing a login failure (18456) on SQL1 from the DTS1 svc acct (domain\sql4cluster).  I get 4 of them at a time.  The times coincide with the execution of a DTS job on my DTS1 server.  I have looked through the DTS job, package, etc and cannot find any references to the SQL1 server at all.  The job is kicked off from an application via this path: app --> stored proc --> dts package1 --> dts job2.  Don't ask about that - i am not the developer...just the sysadmin. =)  FYI...the job executes flawlessly with no problems - i just get the login failure.  SQL profiler doesn't really show anything either - just the login failure from that remote box.

    Does anyone have any suggestions??

    Thanks,

    Nate
