Hi I've been asked to extend a HAG which is currently on premise to include an azure vm sql instance.
currently i have a 3 node cluster, two nodes in on city with synchronous connect and auto failover and one in another city with asynchronous connect and manual failover. I want to add an azure vm with asynchronous connect and manual failover.
The Failover Cluster Manager lets me add the azure vm but when i try to add the Azure server to the availability group it joins but will not connect.
Has anyone done this yet ? I did have issues with the azure server only being visible to parts of the network but it is now visible across the whole domain and port 1433 and 5022 are open and accessible .
Trouble shooting info from MS only seems to talk about an all on premise cluster or all azure based clusters, so I'm really trying to find any guidance on how to set one up that is a hybrid of cloud and on premise.

Have you seen these:

I have not set this up myself - but will be looking to do something similar once we are able to upgrade to SQL Server 2022.
