Is it possible for an Azure cloud service to connect to a SQL Server database hosted on-premise. What modifications are required to the database/network/firewall in that case? Exploring the possibility of using an Azure-hosted web application that can scale out but with the data remaining on-premise for complete security and control. Such a scenario may interest highly security concious industries like financial services to move to the cloud. Could anyone provide the above information or point me to the right resources please?
I have posted the same question on MSDN forums: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsazure/thread/127311b7-be06-46c6-9222-b0d56d1b8cb2. Posting it for insights from the SQL Server community.
Thanks
