Execution context of MulitServer Agent Job

  • Hi, guys!

Seems to me I'm working on "squaring the circle"...

...MultiServer Agent Job (in a MSX/TSX environment) are always running within the security context of the SQL SERVER Agent account, or not?

    Here are the details:

    • multi server jobs have to be owned by a member of sysadmin role: Ownership of these jobs can only be assigned to members of the sysadmin role. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 14543)
    • if a job is owned by a member of sysadmin group, the job is running within the security context of the SQL SERVER Agent account, source: https://www.sqlservercentral.com/blogs/under-which-user-your-sql-agent-job-run-sql-agent-service-account-or-sql-agent-job-owner
    • so there seems to be no way(?) to run a multiserver agent job within the security context of any other logins except the SQL SERVER Agent Account
    • Does it means I've to grant all permissions regarding all my (very different) multiserver jobs completely to SQL SERVER Agent Account?

Any thoughts - hopefully I'm wrong!!

    Kind regards from Germany!

    Sebastian
