Executing a job step as an account from another domain`

  • Hi all

I am wondering if anyone can help me get round a problem. In trying to execute backups our backup server resides in a different domain to our SQL server. I am wanting to execute the backup job in the context of an account that exists in the Backup Server domain, however I am unable to do this as I can't add the account as a login to my SQL server instance because the account doesn't exist in my SQL domain.

    Hope that makes sense.

    Thanks

  • I have to ask why on earth you'd want to make such a simple thing as a backup so difficult?

Your domains have to have a trust releationship set as far as I can remember, it's a while since I encountered this type of issue.

You should be able to add accounts from one domain to a group in another and grant this way I think. I have lost of domains ( company is worldwide ) everything works by groups - but i don't administer the AD so you'd probably do better on an AD forum?

  • Believe me I don't want it to be that difficult I just get the scenario to deal with.... but thanks for the reply anyway.
