Error log message at SQLServer shutdown.

  • Fairly new SQL DBA here.

I discovered the following ERRORLOG message while viewing the logs, it is always the last line of the log:

2008-10-22 12:31:02.98 Server The SQL Network Interface library could not deregister the Service Principal Name (SPN) for the SQL Server service. Error: 0x45b, state: 4. Administrator should deregister this SPN manually to avoid client authentication errors.

This occurs every time SQLServer is shutdown.

Looking for help on how to resolve, thanks.

  • This link - https://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=377594&SiteID=1 - should help in troubleshooting this. There are a couple of blog entries as well regarding the warnings you are seeing.
