EMC XtremeIO

  • Has anyone had any experience with EMC's XtremeIO product? We're getting ready to implement one of their four brick SAN's and it looks like it's going to be a fairly significant change in the way we move data around from prod to qa or dev, based on their snapshot technology. Just wondered if anyone has implemented and how it has changed the way you do things.

I have had the opportunity to 'test' emc extremeIO performance on large sized copy of a prod SQL Server DB. The performance is great but depending on your workload you may or may not want to carve up ssd/flash for the type of Database workload (though that's based on $ factor.. if $ not a factor that is great news).

I have never used the snapshot technology on EMC so I could not say. Could you elaborate on what is significantly different about the 'snapshot' technology. Be interested in hearing/learning more about it.

I only skimmed it but it seems to use some common methodologies for snapshots.. e.g. copy-on-write
