Hello,
I saw in one old post dated in 2005, that VS enterprise edition is needed to debug t-sql stored procedures, is that how it is still?
I have the "SQL server Business Intelligence Development Studio" version, this came with installation of SQL server 2005 std version. When I inquired about it under help, it shows as Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 version 8.50727.42. My host PC is running XP professional version 2002 with svc pack3. My sql server 2005 with service pack2 is running on windows server 2003 standard edition with service pack 2.
I did every thing to configure, when I right click on a stored procedure "Step into" option is not available. I installed and configured MSVSmon (i.e. rdbgsetup.exe) on the server, the fire wall on the server and on the host pc are OFF. Anyway I set up exceptions for port 135 & devenv.exe on the host pc and on the server for ports 135, 4500, 500 & sqlserver.exe. I first run msvsmon on the server. On the host PC, I start the VS, attach to process sqlservr.exe on the server, connect to the sql server instance and right click on the stored procedure, but does not show "step into" option. When I open the stored procedure, there is no way to put a break point, this led me to believe that I need a different version of VS. I do see that server process msvsmon showing connection from my host pc.

I see that VS Express & Std do not support remote debugging, only professional does. However, Local debugging is supported on all versions. However, I do not know if it applies to sql server objetcs, t-sql stored procedures. I tried to debug right on the server using the same method I described above, I still had the same problem. I appreciate your response.
Thnx
Sam
PS: After I posted the above, I came across the same question some one else asked. So, do not reply here, go to the link below and reply there.
