Do TDE certificates expire?

  Does the certificate created for the purposes of encrypting a database expire? Is there any ongoing maintenance required with an encrypted DB i.e. renewing certificates?

  Yes. Database mirroring is one of the only cases where the expiry date of the certificate is honoured.
