Distributed availability groups failover tips

  • Hello,

please I have some points for DAG.

If I will do manual failover, based on documentation  you dont have listener on DAG, so it will be switched from AG1 to AG2 listener.

But we have problem that application config with listener is not possible easily changed.

So I have idea create DNS record mapped to Primary AG of DAG for prevent this, and during failover I will also remapped DNS record.

Or have anybody some another tips how to do in another way?

I was thinking also about recreate AG listeners, but it will be destroy DAG I guess.

    Thanks

  • There are a few things when a failover is required.  One, drop and re-create the listener.  Two, modify the connection strings.  Three, modify the DNS records.  Four, use an alias.

  • Hi, thanks for reply.

I tested recreate listener, but there are problems with cluster permissions, and if you will need to do failover back then can be problems.

So i will prefer this DNS record I guess.

    Thanks
