Hi All,
I want to upgrade my SQL server 2000 (with evaluation version) to retail Standard Edition on a W2K3 server. However, Everytime I am upgrading I get the following message:
The instruction at "0x7c83247a" refrenced memory at "0x00760072". The memory could not be "read".
Click OK to terminate the program"
I get this message repeatedly. I have tried to get the sys Admin guys to physically take the RAM out, but still the same issue.
So, I am thinking about detaching the databases and then uninstalling the Evaluation version. However, the problem is that when I try to remove SQL2000 from Add/remove programs, it says "uninstall.exe" is not available, and doesn't uninstall.
What should I do? How can I confirm that the SQL server version I installed is an Evaluation version? Any ideas?
Thanks,
TK

This is likely not a physical memory issue... That referenced memory is the virtual memory space. As to how to uninstall it, you may have to do it manually:

Thanks Brian. I have been able to sucessfully unsintall SQL default instance and install a retail version of SQL server 2000 Standard Edn.
