Differences between SSRS 2008 r2 and 2012?

  • Hi there, i'm trying to benchmark differences between SQL Server REPORTING SERVICES for 2008 R2 and 2012 Standard Edition?

Since SQL Server 2012 has now a BI and Standard Edition and prices differ a lot , you have this new great feature PowerView and PowerPivot in the BI Edition but PowerView only works with Sharepoint. So you need to add Sharepoint to the price list.

    Thanks

    Gary

  • In SSRS itself, not much has changed, the most the integration with SharePoint.

You now have Data Alerts, updated renderers for Word & Excel and if you install SP1, you can render reports on Apple iOS (might be important for your business).

    What's New (Reporting Services)

  • Hi Koen, thanks for the answer.

Then again, for data alert services, you need sharepoint. All those new features with sharepoint are for the Enterprise version. Customers must adquire Sharepoint so that might benefit from sql server 2012's new features.

I really was expecting more from SSRS 2012. Hope microsoft's SSRS team catch up a little with all new BI trends.

  • If you have Office 2013 and SQL Server 2012 sp1, you can have PowerView in Excel. (that's where most of the SSRS teams efforts went to, I think)
