Dbcc Shrink of a data file and Ghost cleanup

    Hi all!

    I have a database around 2 TB. I am running a shrink on the primary file because some tables were moved to another filegroup and file.

    Since I started the shrink job the progress seems halted at some point (45%) and the sp_who2 gives me a process Ghost Cleanup that is running using CPU and IO.

    The shrink still seems runnnable as status.

    Is this normal? Is this ghost process a part of the shrink process?

    Please any help is appreciated.

    bump on this.

    It seems every time you run a shrink, and then a big deletion of data occurs, ghost cleanup eats up your server. Any idea on this?
