I am doing remote dba for client and setting email alerts
client has 2 sql servers on same domain installed on different boxes
Server 1 sql 2014
db mail set to use stmp with anonymous login
I can set emails to address outside domain
Server 2 sql 2005 (yes I know....)
db mail set to use same setting as Server 1 (same Smtp with anonymous login)
when I try to sent test mail from server 2 I get error
Message
The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server failure. (Sending Mail using Account 3 (2018-12-07T08:07:47). Exception Message: Cannot send mails to mail server. (Transaction failed. The server response was: 5.7.1 <dba01@mydomain01.com>: Relay access denied).
)
1. I don't have access to Exchange
2. I don' t have emails with internal domain address (asking users to reply to see if they get email)
3.I have local admin access on Server 1 and Server 2 using RDP
I am not an expert in Exchange, from what I see
2 NT boxes on same domain using same mail account ,one can sent email another not
Could it be that sending external email restricted from partial IP ?
How to verify it?
Thank you

Speak to your Exchange admin and ask them to allow external e-mails to be sent from Server2.

"Speak to your Exchange admin and ask them to allow external e-mails to be sent from Server2."
So External email could be restricted to particular IP?

It is restricted based on origin. I don't know whether it's done by IP address or by server name.

Anonymous SMTP relay is a security concern. So it might need to be justified as to WHY you want it .:)
