Can't set database mirroring between 2 instances on the same MS SQL server 2005. Can anybody help me please?

I successfully set up "safe mode" mirroring with a witness on the primary (server name) instance, principal on the "DEV1" named instance, and a mirror on the "DEV2" named instance - using the AdventureWorks database... just following the steps from BOL for the backups/restores and then using the Wizard to set up the actual mirroring. Worked like a champ the first time, so I ran it a while (testing failover by stopping the instance in Configuration Manager) and then tore it all down and tried doing it again. Ran into some confusion over which instance to register in the Mirroring Monitor and it just took time to get it straight in my head the roles of the principal vs. mirror and what administrative functions worked against which - especially after a failover when they traded roles.
What kind of errors are you getting, specifically?
