Database crashed

  • My database is crashed, when i searching i can see morethan one mdf file how can i know which one was the latest/orginal

  • Got a backup? If so, restore that.

Are all the mdf files the same name? What's the modified date on the files? Do you have the ldf file as well?

  • There should be only one MDF file for each database. You can try to attach them and get some info from each one as you do.

If you have multiple ones with the same name, get the one with the latest filestamp.

Note also that the name of the MDF has nothing to do with the name of the database. It's a default to name them the same, but it can be changed. I can have the AdventureWorks database with physical files test.mdf and test.ldf
