data files cannot be installed on shared drives on a failover cluster instance

    Hi,

    We have SQL Server 2005 3 node clustered instances and I have data files (.mdf, .ldf files) on shared drive. But from BOL, I have noticed that data files cannot be installed on shared drives on a failover cluster instance

    Program files and data files cannot be installed on a removable disk drive, cannot be installed on a file system that uses compression, cannot be installed to a directory where system files are located, and cannot be installed on shared drives on a fail over cluster instance Program files and data files cannot be installed shared drives on a fail over cluster instance

    It's already in production & it's working fine. Now I'm confused with the above statement from BOL.

    I think they mean not shared with any other system to have write access. When setting up HA clustering only the active node has access to the drives, the passive nodes have potential access to the drives. No other systems should have access.
