I have a Win 2000 service pack4 server running sql service pack 4. The operating system files are on the C: drive and the database files are on the D: drive. I performed a defrag yesterday on the D: drive and now when sql server is running, system idle process shows 99% causing the cpu usage to run at 100% with no other programs running. If I stop sql server, the system idle process still shows 97 to 99% but the cpu % drops to almost nothing.
Any suggestions?
