All:
Since I started trying to be some sort of a programmer, I've used this forum and many more to help me through many questions. I think I may have an opportunity to pay a little forward now.
BASICS:
OS: M'soft Windows Server 2k3 SP2
SQLSvr: 2005 Enterprise Edition (Supporting an ASP.net application).
Periodically we have a need to copy data from a remote server to the SQL Server installation outlined above.
Efforts to copy the db locally between servers was succeeding intermittently, but copy from the remote server was failing with a consistent:
Event: 208
The job was invoked by user sa. The last step to run was step 1.
My research found VOLUMES of information on user permissions... and SA user credentials... and security settings on the SQL Svr / Data directory --- etc.
All valuable information but ultimately produced NO success in getting consistent performance from the Copy Database Wizard.
If you are also struggling try this...
Open Sql Svr Mgmt Studio.
Open HELP.
Open About...
Reference version IDs on Client Tools and Mgmt Studio.
If you have:
Client Tools = 2005.090.1399.00
Mgmt Studio = 9.00.1399.00
You likely have not applied the SQL Svr SP2 patch. Application of the patch updates these to:
Client Tools = 2005.090.3042.00
Mgmt Studio = 9.00.3042.00
Applied patch --
attempted CDW again----
SUCCESS!!!!!
Find patch at:
There are lengthy notes on what the patch is focused on and I did not find notes re: CDW --- but don't let that discourage you. My issue is fixed and Ive yet to see a forum on prob's w/Copy Database Wizard and Event 208 close with success.
Hope this helps someone!!!:hehe:

Thanks for the data. Not sure if I'll need it, but I'm sure someone will.
