Hi I'm new to the forum after a work buddy told me about. Just wondering if anyone can offer advice on suitable references for accessing a DB2 database from SqL Server 2000; the processes, required connectors, the pitfalls and brick walls I might face and the work arounds.
Thanks
I will actually be on leave for the next week so I do apologise for the out of office response, but I will be checking email.

Sorry I don't have any reference material, just simple experience.
1) Install and configure the DB2 Universal client drivers the tool in the toolset I used was Configuration Assistant. You may need to get help from your DB2 guy.
2) The in my DTS Package all I had to do was use a connection type of "Other (ODBC Data Source)" and in "User/System DSN" enter the Alias value used in Configuration Assistant (it createed an ODBC entry itself). Then just like any other work from their.
Only pitfall I ever ran into was on one DB2 server the datatime translation acted incorrectly and I had to manipulate with and ActiveX transformation. Other than that it the only hard part is the DB2 client drivers.

Agree with Antares above. Get the drivers from IBM, install on your server. You can use DTS or a linked server to get the data.
One issue we've had is that the DB2 drivers would leak memory and we'd sometimes get weird issues. We used Client Access, can't remember the version, but depending on load and use, we might reboot the SQL Server every month to fix this.
