Connect tabular model to excel via Power BI semantic model

  • It's possible that you're just not using the correct url for the connection, because the connection string for data models in Power BI look a little different.

Use the "Analyze in Excel" feature from the context menus of the data model in the Power BI workspace. Once you have the open Excel document open, you'll be able to look at the properties of the connection.

  • I get the same error when using Analyse in Excel from the Power BI report.

On another forum, it was suggested this feature requires Premium or Fabric capacity where my organisation has Pro.
