Hi - I am in a bit of a bind.
The cluster resource groups containing my SQL clustered resources have been deleted. I am wanting to uninstall SQL from the servers but it tells me it can't because its part of a cluster. However if I try to remove the node from the SQL cluster it can't find an instance to perform the action against and fails.
Anyone any ideas?
I have also tried to add a node but again it doesn't find an instance.

Ok - I have read that it may be possible to manually rebuild the cluster resource groups but I have no idea how to do that. Would that allow me to remove the node from the cluster and uninstall SQL gracefully?

For those interested what I eventually did with this was to follow this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953505
Although this article seems to set out how to get the instance into a prepared state so that you can finish it with the advanced completion option, I found that the deleting of the Cluster key was the root to solving this problem.
The advanced completion step still failed, however SQL did not think it was part of a cluster anymore and as such allowed me to uninstall it.
Word of advice, never delete your cluster resources :s

Thanks for posting how you were able to clear up the issue. Sadly, I put myself in to the same situation (too fast on the click) and you saved me a ton of time by posting what needed to be done. :w00t:
