Changing License From Core based to CAL

  • Hi Friends,

Has anyone changed their SQL Server license from "SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Core Based Licensing (64-bit)" to "SQL Server 2012 Enterprise"?

If yes, could you please share how to do it?

    Thanks

  • At a guess, I would think you need to contact Microsoft.

I don't know if this document tells you anything helpful (I haven't read through the whole thing yet). Microsoft SQL 2012 Licensing.

  • AFAIK, you cannot do this. I'm not sure why you would. Per Core means any devices can connect. You pay a higher price for this.

Under Server + CAL, you pay less, but per user. MS will not, AFAIK, refund money to you. So why try to change the license?

If you have another license you want to apply, just make a note. Licensing is really an administrative action, not something linked to the server per se.
