    Ben, thanks for the question. I thought the "correct" answer looked a little too obvious, but I chose it anyway, and thought as I clicked "Submit", "It's probably the overflow error". *Sigh*

    When I try this in Sybase ASE, it returns this error message:

    ERROR: Implicit conversion from datatype 'VARCHAR' to 'NUMERIC'

    is not allowed. Use the CONVERT function to run this query.

    When I try it in Sybase IQ, it returns -19.461538, with no error message.
