I'm having issues trying to connect outside of the box with msss and I noticed that the SQL Server Browser isn't running. When I try to start it I get the message "the request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion. Consult the event log or other applicable error logs for details." and when I go look at the event log I get the message "The SQL configuration for SQL is inaccessible or invalid."
I did recently remove an instance from the machine and it looks like 2005 used to be installed on this machine.
Can someone help please?!
If anymore detail is needed, please let me know.

Here's what I ended up doing (in case someone finds this in a search).
I ended up repairing
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (64-bit)
in the
Control Panel / All Control Panel Items / Programs and Features
The repair fixed it but I had to go into the properties of the service in the administrative tools section and set it to automatic as well as start it up manually.
Thanks!!
