Can''t connect to Reporting Services through SQL Server Management Studio And IIS

  • Hi,

I'm getting the following error message when I want to connect to reporting services through SQL Server Management Studio. I have also check the reporting services configurations manager for any issues but still can't connect. The http://localhost/reportserver also is down. I also checked if ASPNET account belongs to the Reporting Services security settings and it does.

I'm running SQL 2005 Enterprise 64bit with Service Pack 2.

  • is your web server up and running

Everything you can imagine is real.

  • Yes, but when I go to default sites -> reportserver- right click -> browse I can a page that displays Service Unavailable.

  • OK, let me put it this way. What group policy objects will effect Reporting Services?

  • Ruaan,

If you go to the RS configuration manager are you able to connect to your RS server?

Everything you can imagine is real.

  • Is this a fresh install or an older install that used to work and no longer does?

  • If I use the RS Configuration manager I can connect without problems.

The install was a fresh install, no upgrades from previous versions.

  • check that the ASPNET user has read, execute, list permissions on the folder [C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\...\Reporting Services] and its child folders.

Everything you can imagine is real.

  • If I've read this correctly, you should also be able to recreate/reset the permissions, etc. for your reporting services instance via the Reporting Services Configuration Manager.  Go to the console, select the instance, and then check the "apply default settings" for both the Report Server and Report Manager virtual directories.
