Hi everybody,
I'm stuck registering an analysis server getting the following error:
cannot open connection to analysis server 'servername'
server connection lost
I followed recommendations of other posts but still having the trouble.
The pc I'm using has the following characteristics:
Clean installation of:
win xp pro sp2
SQL Server 2000 sp4
Analysis Services sp4
security:
admin user account with the olap admin profile
win xp firewall disabled
MSSQLServerOLAPService running ok (I tried with the system account and a user account, same result)
Any other idea would be appreciated.

If your repository is still in MSAccess you could try doing a repair on that, if there is/was any corruption this should be fixed by doing the repair.

You've checked to make sure that the admins group is a member of the olap admins group on your machine?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply. I've checked the msmdrep.mdb and I only found it was in a previous version of access (mine is 2002) so I converted it but still having the trouble.

The user I'm using is member of admins and olap groups.

Did you apply the service packs cumulatively or just SP4 after doing a fresh install? It would appear that some SP3 fixes weren't included in the SP4 release, so there's a hotfix with these in it available here).

No luck, I applied the suggested hotfix and still having the same trouble.

It's really weird.
