Cannot connect to SQL 2000 Personal Database running on Win XP SP3

  • Hi there. I have installed SQL Server 2000 Personal Edition on a notebook with Windows XP SP3. If I create and ODBC connection on this notebook to, for example, the Northwind database, it connects fine. If I try to create the same ODBC connection on another WinXP workstation, I get the error

    Connection Failed:

    SQLState: '01000'

    SQL Server Error: 10061

    [Microsoft][ODBS SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen (Connect()).

    COnection Failed:

    SQL State:'08001'

    SQL Server Error : 17

    [Microsoft][ODBS SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]SQL Server does not exist or access is denied

    The only documentation I have been able to find refers to opening up the correct port in the Windows Firewall, but I have disabled the firewall on the server and on the client PC and get the same results. Any ideas?

    Thanks
