I had to reinstall SQL SERVER 2000.
Although I was able to create my data base and use it normally from my application. I am not being able to use the SQL Server Enterprise Mgr. When I try to obtain all the rows of a table for example, I get a msg saying that consultation cannot be done because there are files missing or not registered. And suggests that I reinstall the software.
I did it twice exactly as I had it originally, but still no results.
ANy clue?
Thanks in advance

What files does it say are missing or not registered? Have you checked to see if they are missing? If they are not missing, try re-registering them. I am curious as to the file names as they may help clue us in on what your problem is. Has anything else been done to your workstations? Any other software installs or MDAC?

Unfortunately there is no detail of which files are missing.
I had windows xp installed (new installation) and on top of that I installed the sql server. Nothing special.
Any way of cleaning the registry of previous garbage sql related??

Have you applied any sql server service packs?
August 5, 2006 at 7:05 am
Nop.
Should I?
August 5, 2006 at 4:23 pm
For sql server 2000 it is best to patch to service pack 3a or higher, this to fix many bugs.
By applying the service pack there is also a great chance it will register the missing files. Make sure no anti-virus, anti-spyware software is blocking your (re)install.

Just on the outside chance you didn't know... you do realize that SQL Server must be installed on a Windows Server? (Except for the Developer's Edition, of course)?

what is the exact error message?
Do a Ctrl+C on message window and paste in next post. This will help us better to find cause/possible solution

I'll try to install the patch.
I was using this sql server version without any patches before reinstalling XP. So I dont see why should I do anything different, but will try anycase.
I'll come back with the messages as soon I recover my internet connection(that should happen soon)
Many thanks to everyone that it's trying to help me.

Well, I applied SP4 with no changes.
Hence, I unistalled SQL SERVER and tried to reinstall it.
But now I am having problems event to install it.
I get a message saying "Installation program was not able to configure the server. Check error logs and sqlstp.log to obtain more information.
Sqlstp.log follows this message.
I have tried all the combinations of
Use local system account
use domain user account
with
WIndows authentication
mixed mode
and nothing works.
I do not understand why if I uninstalled SQL SERVER I still have to honor previous configurations to install a fresh one.
Pls help me as now, I am totally stopped.

Goodday Homero
Could you try the following:
Making sure all previous installations are removed:
*No antivirus/antispyware program are running and that all sql server services are stopped.
Microsoft has some detailed steps on manually removing sql server:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290991/
2) Reinstalling sql server with administrator rights, to a different path (just to make sure no older files get in the way)
Do you have a newer version of sql server installed like sql server 2005 (express edition)?

I had followed MS steps to ensure total cleanup, but nothing changes.
I had reinstalled to a different name and nothing happens.
I have installed another windows XP in the same machine, and sql server installs normally.
However although I can "use" the installation from the original Windows, when I try to create the LOCAL server I get the same error 126.
Moving to the new XP is hard because I have licenses in the old one to be transferred, and it is burdensome. The point is, is something that has to do with the way windows is installed, but I cannot see what is it to change it.
ANy idea of what is this error 126?

Have you installed/reinstalled mdac 2.8? A newer version of mdac is already included in windows xp servicepack 2
Found a link on possible related error 126:

Many thanks to everyone that helped me.
Specially to Jo whose link on error 126 brought the answer.
The solution to the installation problem was to put in /windows/system32 the library sqlsrv32.dll
that was being informed by the registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ODBC/ODBCINST.INI/SQL Server as present, and it was not there.
WHy? Dont know.
Now, once this was done, SQL installed more or less properly.
I created my data base, populated it, and when I tried to use Enterprise Mgr to get all the rows off a table (or a consultation) I get the same original error I reported, this is, "there are libraries missing or not registered".
I tried to register sqlsrv32.dll using regsvr32 but did not work.
Any thougths?

Guys, still have the same problem of
"there are libraries missing or not registered" when trying to get all the columns of a table.
Can anyone help?
