Can not connect Enterprise Manager on workstation to SQL Server 2000

  • I have three SQL servers running on Win2K3 SP2:

    CLAEIS01- SQL2000 SP4 V8.00.2039

    CLA-EIS02- SQL2000 SP4 V8.00.2039

    CLA-EISDEV- SQL2000 SP4 V8.00.194 (RTM)

I have installed the SQL2000 Client tools on a couple of WinXP SP2 workstations, which connect to CLAEIS01 & CLA-EIS02 but not CLA-EISDEV. The error I get when connecting to CLA-EISDEV is:

CLA-EISDEV - SQL Server does not exist or access denied. ConnectionOpen(Connect())

I am logged in as a Domain Admin. When I log into CLAEIS01 as the same Domain Admin user, I can connect the Enterprise Manager to the other two SQL servers OK. So I do not think it is an issue on the CLA-EISDEV server.

So what can I try to fix this issue?

  • I figured it out. i had a corrupted installation of SQL Server. I could not uninstall it as it complained that the uninstall file was missing so I re-installed, uninstalled then finally re-installed again. I applied SP4 to it and the users can now connect to it. Thanks.
