1. I can't see other yukon running in my LAN. This was not the case with sql server 2K. I want to connect to several sql servers 2k5 via management studio. Is there any publishing require before yukon will be visible to others in the network?

To be able to see the SQL Server 2005 instances on a machine you must have the SQL Server Browser enabled and started. Use either the Configuration Manager or Surface Area Configuration to change the settings.

Yes, my sql server browser is enabled and started.
Following is the error message I am getting:
"Testing the registered server failed. A connection was established but then an error occurred druing the pre-login handshaek. (provider: named pipes provider, error:0 no process is on the other end of the pipe)(Microsfot sql server, error 233)"
I am using correct user id and password.

Just a guess, but is named pipes enabled on the server? Check in Surface Area Configuration utility.

More accurately, I am able to connect sql server 2005 management studio (client) to the sql server but only within my LAN. Within the LAN obviously, I did not have to specify any port number, becasue there is no NAT mapping required in the router. But I could not connect from outside. I was able to cnnect from outside to server 2000.
My router has port 1433 routed to proper machine.
Is the default port for sql server 2005 is 1433?
SQL server 2000 used port 1433. I hope that hasn't changed.
