I've searched for similiar posts but didn't find anything relevant in the first couple of pages of searh results.
I'd like to use our single SSRS instance to provide reports for two differents teams. rather than have two folders held inside /reports (eg a folder for "teamA" and one for "teamB"), i'd rather have two URLs eg, http://localhost/TeamAReports, and http://localhost/TeamBReports. or at least localhost/reports/teama and localhost/reports/teamb.
can i and in particular how can i set this up in RS configuration manager?
any help/guidance much appreciated.

Not sure that you can do something like that, but you can do URL's to take you to a specified folder, like this:
http://localhost/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx?ItemPath=%2fteamA
Is that any good to you?

if the above is probably the only way, then yes. how is the above achieved within RS Config Manager?
(is the above not achieved by simply creating the two folders at the "root" of the reportserver?)

Yep, it's done by creating two folder in the root of the reportserver.
You could then provide the URL's direct to the folder to the relevant team, rather than just http://localhost/Reports
You might also be able to set up some sort of auto-redirect using IIS outside of RS once the folders are created.
(e.g. http://localhost/TeamAReports -> http://localhost/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx?ItemPath=%2fteamA)
I have done something like that in the past, with mixed results (I was redirecting to a different RS instance though).
