  • Thirty-some years ago we had a tech that fixed a hard drive problem with a hammer. The drive wasn't spinning up so he whacked it. All fixed.

    The trick is knowing that special place to whack it.

  • A baseball bat would work the same. See movie 'Office Space' for an example. 🙂

  • There are days when a hammer would come in handy, but I usually think along the lines of a sledgehammer or something bigger. We have one server I'd like to take to the range and put out of its misery.

  • If percussive maintenance doesn't fix the problem, gravitational maintenance is known to work.

  • It is probably more theraputic than the firmware configuration fix.
