Check out Edward Tufte at Edward Tufte - Wikipedia
I find it fascinating the number of ways data can be presented. Also we're all different so there isn't a one size fits all, some prefer tables others prefer spark lines or bar charts etc. I used small multiples in an academic project presentation which seemed to be understood by my audience who were a mixture of academics and fellow students.
The other side of the coin is from Mark Twain "There are lies, there a damn lies and there are statistics" (Twain credited Disraeli as saying this first but there's no record of this, so by default Twain was the first recorded as saying it. Many others have quoted it since)
Make sure what you're showing is a true and accurate reflection and you can demonstrate your reasoning.
I'll be keeping an eye out for the T-SQL Tuesday event. 🙂
