Azure Database Watcher Monitoring

  • Hi,

I’ve provisioned an Azure Database Watcher to monitor our 4 Azure SQL Managed Instance, using the free tier of Azure Data Explorer. However, I’m currently overwhelmed by the visual data and trying to understand which performance metrics are most critical—particularly regarding Compute. Could someone point me to a comprehensive guide or documentation that explains how to properly assess performance and determine when it's necessary to scale up vCores, move to a higher service tier, or establish a performance baseline for scaling decisions?

BTW, under the hood I have a General Purpose with 4 vCore with Gen 5 Hardware, the database size ranging around 200 GB to 500 GB.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Thanks for posting your issue and hopefully someone will answer soon.

This is an automated bump to increase visibility of your question.

  • I'm still quite new to this area and actively studying how to establish a performance baseline for our Azure SQL Managed Instance, especially since it's a new cloud deployment. I am just trying to be proactive to learn on this one. Thank you again.
