The more serious issue is that the virtual machine host environment is impacted, pretty much regardless of the OS that the guest (hosted) virtual machine is running. When a virtual machine can escape its own memory space and read the memory space of the host OS and the memory space of other virtual machines the potential for problems is considerably higher. This was why the major cloud vendors were in on the patching so early, and also why the non-major cloud vendors are so annoyed because they were left out of the loop in order to protect the interests of the major cloud vendors - standard security: the more people who know about a problem the more likely it is to be leaked.
