Why is it unfortunate that you got someone else's code to work? Usually it's a good thing to get someone else's code to fix a problem.
That was a typo.
I could not get that code to work.

About the solution, do you understand it? It's important that you do because you're going to be the one supporting it. I don't know that "some guy on the internet said to do it this way" is going to fly if your boss asks you about it.
