i played with making my own macro, but there are just so many variations/things to consider, you really need to do it in a programming language;
what's good for a SELECT statement formatting doesn't work for a CREATE TABLE statement, and a whole lot more.
I ended up buying a plug in for SSMS for $50 dollars instead, which works great for me. much less expensive than the Redgate version of a sql formatter.
thye've got a free trial version if you want to test drive it at SQL Pretty Printer for SSMS, which adds a new context menu called "SQL Beautifier"

DO NOT REPLY TO THIS POST ANY MORE.. I am not interested in ULTREDIT.
I changed my mind.
This is the best SQL FORMATTING TOOL. TRY THIS ONLINE AND YOU WILL BE AMAZED!
All that you do is paste your sql press a button and you get the output formatted.
CAn be also installed to work with SSMS ( But you have to pay for that )
