I'm trying to familiarize myself with SQL 2005 Reporting Services and so I bought the Microsoft Press book, "SQL SERVER 2005 REPORTING SERVICES STEP BY STEP". However when I try to install the database using the restore commands on page xvi of the introduction (step 19), I get the following Access denied message:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
------------------------------
The following system error occurred: Access is denied. . (Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services)
------------------------------
BUTTONS:
OK
------------------------------
I am able to report against other databases with my current login but when trying to restore the rs2006sbs.abf I get this error.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I think we need some more info ... what do you mean you're installing a reporting services database by restoring it?
Are you migrating a reporting services database from one server to another? Are you setting up reporting services for this first time? Is this even reporting services you're talking about? The error says Analysis Services ...
More detail would help.
Thanks

Sorry if not clear. I have SQL Server 2005 installed. I have Reporting Services 2005 installed.
I purchased the Microsoft Press book, "SQL SEVER 2005 REPORTING SERVICES, STEP BY STEP". Part of using this book is to install a sample database. I'm attempting to do this via their instructions that has you do the following:
"Open SQL Server Management Studio, connect to Analysis Services, right-click the Databases folder, select Restor, type rs2006sbs in the Restore Database box, click Browse, type C:\Documents and Settings\ \My Documents\Microsoft Press\rs2005sbs\Setup\Database in the Selected Path box (I found this path in Windows explorer and copied it in so I know I have it right), tyep rs2006sbs.abf in the File Name box, and then click OK twice.
This step restores the database that is used to demonstrate how to sue an Analysis Services database as a data source for a report"
Well...when I do all this, I get the error:
The following system error occurred: Access is denied. . (Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services)

So, basically you're trying to restore a database?
Have you tried restoring a database from another location (different location, different backup)?
It sounds like the account running SQL server does not have access to the file system where the backup is stored.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I was pulled onto different, non SQL, projects, and am now just getting back to SQL.
I moved the file to restore to a directory I knew I had permissions to access and this appeared to solve the problem of getting the access error. Have not since tried to use the restore database, but hopefully will have a chance soon.
Thank you for your help.
