Alwayson availblity group on dev edition vs enterprise edition

  • We would like to set up two test instances for test alwaysOn availability group for disaster recovery and HA. They will both in our network, but in different physical location of data center.

Since it needs Enterprise edition of SQL server, my question is for this testing purpose, in order not to buy license ,

Can I just install developer edition on both nodes? I know developer edition should be the same as enterprise edition, but just for individual use, but I don't know are they the same regarding aspect of always on availbity group features?

    Thanks,

  • They are the same.

  • Developer Edition give all the facilities of Enterprise Edition.

Also, Developer Edition is not restricted to individual use. The restriction is on type of use. A whole team can use a single Developer Edition instance providing their work is purely development.

  • Thank you all.

In that case, I think I can use the developer edition for testing Alwayson Availability instances.

Hope that no any difference, regarding other tools for example to install SSMS, or others.
