After SQL 2005 Upgrade my SQL Version is still 8.0

  • I have recently upgraded one of my database servers to SQL 2005 from SQL 2000. After the upgrade I rebooted and when I look in SQL Server Management Studio the version is still 8.0. How can I correct this as it appears that all components installed accept for the base SQl Server Components?

  • Where / how did you collect that info?

  • The info was gathered from SQL Server Studio Manager when you highlight the server

  • Can you post a screenshot? I just can't make heads or tales with this atm, I have 2K5 and it reads 9.

  • Are you sure you're connecting to the right instance?

Did you do an in-place upgrade or did you install SQL 2005 alongside SQL 2000?

That's the server level. That server is sql 2000.

The tools version is in help... about.

Shouldn't the server level read version 9.00.5 after the upgrade though?

Which is the point of the question, that an (apparently) upgraded server is still the old version.

Either the connection is to the wrong instance or the upgrade failed.

  • The upgrade must have failed then as there is only 1 instance on the server. Just double checked to be sure that it did not create a new one and only the default instance is there.
