Hi,
I work for a company that hired another company to do the database backups, they are doing full and differential backups and they save the backup files, if we need them we ask and after a fee we can get the files. I would like to add our own backup sets to be able to restore without asking them, but I don't know how they will interfere with their backup sets. For example, they do Full backup on Saturdays and daily Differential, I would like to Full Backup on Wednesdays (for example) and daily differential, but on Sunday, my differential backup will be after another Full backup, the one that they did on Saturday and I can't access the file. Is there a way o keep 2 backup sets?
Thank you,
MB

If you do a full backup it will interfere with their differentials as it will reset the start point for the differentials. Their differentials will still run but there will be confusion as to which full backup to use.
You will be limited to taking full backups with the copy_only parameter.
I see no reference to log backups, so I presume the databases are in simple mode.
I would be careful what doing this means contractually as well, and if you can take your own backups why do you need this outside company? Take your own backups and get the outside firm to just offsite the backup files, then if you need an older backup retrieve it from them.
they charge a fee to supply you with your backup? Never heard of that before, data storage companies normally just charge for storage.
