SQL Homework – April 2019 – Practice dealing with corruption

,

Over the last almost 2 years (wow how time flys when you are having fun) we’ve practiced all kinds of common tasks from installing a SQL Server instance, to creating tables and views. Maybe now is a good time to practice a few things that are equally important, but maybe less common. So to start with, let’s practice handling some database corruption.

A while back Steve Stedman (b/t) did a series he called the Database Corruption Challenge. Try a couple.

Now, you may not be able to solve them on your own. I know I’ve had a hard time myself now and again and that’s fine. This is a learning exercise. Fortunately, in this case, each of the challenges has a set of solutions that others came up with. So if you have a hard time recovering the corrupted data, go back and read them. In most cases, there is more than one way to recover from corruption so honestly, it wouldn’t hurt to read them regardless.
