In parallel with the presentation I gave at the PASS Data Community Summit on quantum computing’s impact on data, I wrote an article specifically on impact with respect to Microsoft SQL Server. As I stated during my presentation, we are not in a panic now situation. We know quantum computing is likely to be realized sooner than later and it’s time to start planning for replacing the appropriate encryption algorithms. I likened it to know that Y2K was coming and getting the planning in place to update the affected systems. That’s what I see with quantum computing.
