Presenting Two Sessions at PASS Summit 2019

,

In just a few days, I’ll begin my annual journey to Seattle, Washington for the PASS 2019 Summit.  This is one of my favorite conferences to attend.  It is usually a “family” reunion for me as I have made a significant number of connections simply by attending.

While at Summit this year, I’ll also be delivering two different sessions.  I’m honored to have been selected to speak at this year’s event and I hope the attendees enjoy my sessions.

The first session will be a part of the Learning Pathway sessions and we’ll talk about how to get started with migrating to the cloud and what questions you may want to ask.  The second session I will talk about disaster recovery techniques for your data in the Azure.  Both are cloud oriented.

Journey to the Cloud: Planning the First Steps

This session will be Wednesday, November 6th at 10:30 AM in TCC Tahoma 5

Every journey begins with a single step. This is true with any type of information technology project and moving to the cloud is no exception. With a cloud migration journey, that first step should be determining how to get there with a solid migration plan. In order to build this migration, there are a lot of questions that need to be answered. Questions like “Who needs to be involved?”, “What region do we use?”, “How long will it take?”, and “What will it cost?” are a good starting point. While all of these questions can be overwhelming, forming a solid migration plan isn’t as hard as you’d think.

In this 75-minute session, we will help you answer these questions as we travel through the process of starting to create a solid migration plan. As we reach wrap up and reach our destination, you can take the answers and continue your journey to the cloud by attending the follow up session, “Choosing Your Cloud: Step 2 In Your Cloud Migration Journey”.

This session is the first session in the Cloud Migration Learning Pathway. For more information please visit our Learning Pathways page.

Designing Azure Data Disaster Recovery Strategies

This session will be Thursday, November 7th at 3:15 PM in 606.

In an on-premises world many organizations did not have the option of multiple data centers or were limited in what that they could protect from disaster. Moving to the cloud evolves many technologies—disaster recovery being one of the most prominent ones. It can be quick and easy to protect your application in multiple regions worldwide. For any critical application, disaster recovery should be at the forefront of your planning. The cloud does not change this. In the event of a regional outage, you still need to meet your recovery objectives. If you aren’t prepared for this failure, the downtime could be costly.

In this session, we will examine the ways to help protect your Azure Data footprint from outages. You will learn about strategies with Azure SQL Databases, virtual machines, and Managed Instances as well as how to protect your application tier. At the end of the session you’ll have a better understanding of how to ensure your data in the cloud is protected from failure.

Duration: 75 minutes

Level: 200

Stream: Data Management

Audience: DBA, Architect, Consultant

Technology Focus: Hybrid Infrastructure
