Learn Better: Pause to Review More

,

If you want to learn better, pause more in your learning to intentionally review.

Think about certification books. Most certification books present a topic per chapter. Review questions are at the end. At the end of the material, there might be sample exams which cover everything. However, the expectation is that you diligently answered the chapter review questions. The reason certification books (and courses) do this is because it helps retention and understanding.

When we are learning on our own. It helps to pause to review. We don’t have a list of pre-defined questions, but if we are reading, we should be able to come up with questions based on the section we just read. When we check our answers, we’ll know if we’ve learned it or if we need to go back over it again. We want to make sure we understand what we just processed before moving on.
