Act on Your Certification Test Results

,

Pass or fail, act on your certification test results.

Test results show how you did. Build a study plan from the results. What was worst should be first. Like with certification prep, schedule time to study. Then, study. Your test results tell you where your gaps are. Fill them in. We want skills. We don’t want skill gaps.

When interviewing, I try to verify skill. There was a time in IT when too many certification holders were able to get a hold of actual test questions and answers (“brain dumps”) and passed the exams that way. They had the credentials but not the skills. The credentials can get you past the HR screening. That’s the known value for a certification. However, you can always use certifications to help you know what to master. Those skills you master you’ll use on the job.

Therefore, don’t just stop at passing the exam. Use the results to continue your learning and mastery.
