Accept the no and move on

,

Take what they wrote and replace it with “no.”

It’ll save a lot of time.

Seth Godin

Here is a short emotional intelligence (EI) post for today, courtesy of Seth Godin. When we are rejected, whatever the situation, many of us want to know why. We want that nugget of information that explains why we weren’t accepted. What if they don’t and aren’t willing to provide a reason? What if the reason they give doesn’t match with the facts or whatever else they said or wrote?

We can spend a lot of time and mental effort trying to decipher why. However, we can’t know for sure. And in these cases, the other person or people don’t want to give the real reason. Any mental effort we spend trying to figure out why is wasted energy, increased stress, and less joy. That’s why Seth’s advice is to replace whatever feedback that gave with a “no.” Take the no and move on. Save your energy for something worthwhile.
