I can thoroughly recommend the Synology - lovely piece of kit and yes I have a pair of WD Red drives (3TB). I use it as a hot backup, music and video player and file store. Not inexpensive but worth it.

A quality fabricator/printer would be my gadget of the moment and probably a Raspberry PI or two to integrate with whatever I create - plus an n space room in the house to fit it all....
