SQL 2005 - SMO / DMO lockdown

  • I am locking down a goverment sql database system using DOD Security guidelines. One of them calls for the SMO and DMO XPs options to be disabled. When I implement that, I have found that the client side cannot see any objects for that instance (which is what I expected).

Is there or does anyone knopw where I can find documentation specifically indicating ( a client using Managment Studio from their computer) that disabling SMO and DMO XPs options will cause problems?

Thanks for any help and info on this.

  • SMO & DMO are enabled by default, as two of SQL Server's Management tools: Management studio and Database Tuning Advisor (DTA), rely on them. Disable then ONLY if you dont need these tools. Neither are used by any applications
